I thought about my fellow 1st District congressional major competitors yesterday, and it occurred to me that they are all (as far as I can tell) either collecting a state or federal government paycheck, or used to.

A common quotation is that a definition of madness, or insanity according to Albert Einstein is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That’s something like adding 2 + 2 and hoping to get 4,385.29 as the result. Unless you’re living in a different universe, that will never happen.

Our political system is straight-forward. Start when you’re young by running for a council seat, mayor, state representative or even a nice federal government position. Make sure that the position is something that you can later brag about. Then develop a following and a “good reputation,” whatever that means, and leverage that to get elected to Washington.

It’s a career path of starting small, collecting a government paycheck, getting another position, collecting a government paycheck and ending up on easy street, collecting a government paycheck. You can then retire, collecting a government pension paycheck.

I don’t think that our Founding Fathers envisioned a career path for our (alleged) leaders. They envisioned going to Washington, doing your job and then leaving. They were old fashioned. I believe in that.

Nowadays, nobody leaves unless they are dragged out kicking and screaming. No, I’m wrong. Members of the House of Representatives do quit… but either to retire with a very nice pension paycheck and unspent campaign funds. They are used to influence the political system, or to run for Senate and possibly the presidency. Ignoring that our government borrows 40 cents of every dollar spent, the public pays all of the bills.

I take pride in having never been employed by federal, state or municipal governments. I think that’s a plus. I believe in free enterprise and the private sector. Work hard, provide a good or service that the public needs and wants and you’ll do well. It’s the American way.

If we continue to do the same thing, electing the same career path politicians over and over again can we really expect any change? Is the financial mess that we’re in, caused by our government, the result of this madness? You decide.

Impossible is not a word in my dictionary. The impossible is possible. Support my campaign and I will make sparks fly in Washington.
