A new way to get rid of our Washington politicians

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As you know, once our House and Senate representatives have lied their way into office, it is very, very difficult to get rid of them. What they claim to do once elected, is quickly forgotten and becoming more wealthy and playing the power game becomes irresistible.

I’ve written in the past about different ways to accomplish the goal of serving our country and then leaving without making it a lifetime career, but here is another method. Perhaps it will encourage public debate…

When a person is elected, they must secure 50.001% of the vote. That’s okay, although many races become runoffs meaning only a tiny percentage of the public are bothered to vote again, so this tiny minority actually choose the winner.

That situation usually occurs when an incumbent leaves office, since once in the system it makes sure that the public can’t get rid of them. Just examine prior races when an incumbent runs again, and where there isn’t one. You’ll get the point.

So I suggest that in future elections, the incumbent must get an additional percentage point for each year in office to win. That means if they actually do what they claimed they will do to get elected initially (imagine that!), the the public will be happy with the incumbent will easily win again.

So, after the initial election, the House elections are every two years. So using this new method, the incumbent must get 52.001% to win. At his or her second relection, 54.001% and so on. That means that the percentage that the incumbent needs to get will be eventually unobtainable, and they’ll leave office.

Yeah!

For example, if a congressperson is in office for nineteen years, then at the next election he or she will require 70.001% of the vote to win. That will get rid of them eventually.

Yeah!

Obviously, the competitors will only need 48.001%, 46.001%, 44.001% and so on to win when running against the incumbent.

For the Senators, reelected every six years, the first reelection will need 56.001% to win again, then 62.001% and so on. They’ll be gone sooner than later.

Yeah!

As you may know, our system is corrupt, designed to favor the incumbent and once in office, they stay there forever. That’s not good for our country.
