The CDC is screwing up again, for a reason…

If you’ve read or watched the news you’ll find a story about how the CDC is blocking almost any eviction for residential tenants who don’t pay their rent, either because they don’t have the money or want to live free and screw their landlords!

It’s called the Temporary Halt in Residential Evictions to Prevent the Further Spread of COVID-19.

Why is the CDC doing this? First and foremost, they will be the “bad guys,” as our Liar-in-Chief, President Trump wants to distance himself for this proclamation, as the election is just weeks away.

There are a lot more tenants than landlords, so he’ll do anything for votes to avoid indictment if not re-elected. His family may be anyway, but I don’t think he really cares. That’s their problem.

Although our president may dodge federal charges as they will set a precedent that the next president will not like, I’m sure that the State of New York is waiting and salivating.

Secondly, the CDC can hide behind “working for the public good” by help prevent the spread of coronavirus while they still make up stories about what people should do, and what they shouldn’t. Guesswork.

They don’t mention that if hospitals claim their patients customers have coronavirus the government pays them a lot of money per customer, up to $300,000 per reported case! Imagine what the hospitals claim? I am shocked!

So if you have to go to the hospital with a broken bone, check the coding on the claim and see if you see coronavirus listed. Don’t be surprised.

To be eligible, the tenant will be required to sign a (worthless) piece of paper that you can read here – Tenant Certification for Evictions Protections.

The ban, that may imprison landlords if they don’t comply, covers renters who “prove” that they have lost “substantial” income, are making a “best efforts” to pay as much of their rent as possible and “expect” to earn no more than $99,000 this year or received a stimulus check.

Almost everyone got a free money reelect-me giveaway.

If filing jointly, twice that or $198,000. Can you imagine that if your family income is $198,000 a year, that you can’t afford to pay your rent? Perhaps they’ll block monthly payments on your Mercedes Benz, Lexus or Tesla as well? Who knows?

The sad part of this poorly thought through ban is that the tenants are not forced to provide collateral, such as their car(s) title or anything else of value. When they (probably) default after the ban is lifted and they are expected to repay all of the back payments, the landlords could take their vehicles and sell them.

Fortunately, it only applies to non-payment of rent, so if the tenant is not in compliance with the other lease sections, that will be used to remove them.

What is best efforts or expect are sufficiently vague, so that landlords will only receive token income from the freeloaders. Unlike landlords who may temporarily suspend mortgage payments on their properties under the (we don’t) CARES Act, their property is collateral.

The tenants don’t have collateral in the property, so they may run for it when the free rent ride eventually ends, and laugh at not paying rent for an extended period… probably from another state.

They don’t realize that the landlord can still sue them, once a month in small claims court including late fees, court costs, early termination and whatever and then file garnishments against their paychecks, ruin their credit and disrupt the tenants lives who will use this proclamation to screw the landlords.

If our government had any sense, which they clearly don’t, the CARES Act or the next few rounds of (national debt) giveaways could have just subtracted the rent from the $600 a week unemployment supplement, and paid the landlord directly after submission of the leases.

The point of the $2,400 a month was to help pay for food and rent. It doesn’t mean that the tenant had to use that money for that, and I suspect a large number didn’t.

Don’t be shocked, our government will lose all interest in working with the public the day after our General Election, November 4. They think that you are fish food, that’s all the public is good for and for voting the same charlatans in again and again.
