How to get rid of our useless congresspeople and lower the deficit

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s simple.

1     Forfeit their pensions if they stay in office in Washington, feeding at the public trough, for more than twelve years. Two terms for the Senators and six terms for the House congresspeople. Twelve years for both. They are all selfish, and this is the only way to reign them in.

Imagine that?

Note that mostly senators, and not House congresspeople, run for president. Why? You can only run for one office each election cycle, so the ones that usually run will only do that when they don’t have to run for the senate in that year.

In that way, senators can leave their jobs for a long time, get paid $14,500 a month and become better known nationally. Can you tell your boss that you are not going to work, are looking for another job and still get paid… and not fired?

Imagine that?

Also good for the “consulting job offers” for doing favors for big business and joining company boards after they eventually leave office.

House people commit political suicide if they run for president, so only a few lemmings do. Or they pretend to run, but not officially, so they can raise money through donations in their alleged campaigns, decide not to and keep the money.

Imagine that?

2     Reduce their incomes each year by the percentage increase in the national debt. It’s spiraling out of control, and when we go bankrupt the people will suffer. They won’t. They like their fat $14,500 a month paychecks and don’t want them to decrease so they’ll suddenly all get conservative and not spend phantom, borrowed money to help get them reelected.

Imagine that?

So your question probably is … how does the public force our public (self) servants to risk losing income. It’s simple, although a challenge.

When you vote, you may notice that there are some subtle hints pushing you to vote a certain way. It goes without saying that very few people know the policies of the people they vote for, few do any research but as it’s their civic duty to vote, they do so with little knowledge.

The politicians know that, and it’s used to the incumbents’ advantage. After all, being reelected is their primary business.

Here’s how they get reelected in Georgia –

1     You’ll see the word “incumbent” against their names. That draws the voter to those names, as the voters usually haven’t heard of anything too bad about that person, so are voted for again. It’s known as a devil you know, versus one you don’t.

So many people just check that box.

2     The names will also have the word – Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Independent next to the person’s name so people can vote for the party, second after voting for the incumbents, first. I suspect that full party names are frequently used, not to confuse the public when initials may.

I don’t think that many voters can match party and names without this hint.

In addition, there are usually two choices in the general election which is why there are primaries, to generally reduce to two. That way you won’t make the “mistake” of having too many choices in the general election, and vote for anybody but the incumbent.

Take a close look at Georgia’s 2018 General Election ballot, that you can download here.

While the politicians complain about Russia tampering with our elections, our major parties have been doing that for years. You’ll note that the Secretary of State office that oversees the Georgia elections was run by a Republican before he became governor. I suspect that in states run by Democrats, they’ll be at the top to help people vote for the first choice and the incumbent.

Note that the Republican candidate is always the first choice. That the Libertarian or Independent is always last; that the Incumbent is always first? And all with the party affiliations. It’s so the public will be “guided” to whom to vote for. This is (not so) sly corruption, that the newspapers choose to ignore. Being in “first place” is good, and “last place, “bad.” Now you know.

The public is being led by the nose, without realizing how corrupt our system is. They do what they are quietly told to do.

Imagine that?

In any instance, if you lean one way or the other, you’ll have another gentle nudge in the “correct” direction, so you do what you are supposed to.

So, the public has to demand changes in the laws to reflect a potential reduction of congressional incomes and a “practical” term limits amendment, without trying to amend our Constitution, an almost impossible task.

And if not, the public will pledge NOT to vote for the incumbent under any circumstance. In that way, the public will actually get their representatives to do what the public wants.

Imagine that?

Point 1 makes it really easy to know who that is, so the nudging will work the other way.

Sadly, the public is so polarized, which is what our government wants, a movement to make these changes is unlikely to gain traction. So our deficit will continue to spiral upwards towards bankruptcy, and our “leaders” will be laughing all the way to the bank!

Pay attention to where the abattoir is. You are heading towards it.

But we shall see.
