Why this will probably happen. It’s not why you think it will.

So why did Forbes Magazine publish an article titled – The U.S. Could Be About To Completely Shutdown Commercial Airspace? It’s probably not why you think our government will issue that order in the next few weeks.

You are probably thinking that they will be doing it to stop or slowdown the spread of the coronavirus. Not so. As you may know there has been a dramatic drop in airline travel already. Passenger traffic has dropped by 90% so is effectively slowing down the spread without government intervention.

For illustration, my neighbor flew from Atlanta to San Diego a few weeks ago on March 18 to visit relatives. The plane had about 58 passengers, 35% full. When she returned a few days ago on April 5, just three weeks later, there were 8 passengers, 5% of capacity!

Based on how our economy works, which is who gets the money and how, I think that the airlines have or will ask our president to unilaterally order a complete shutdown of commercial airline traffic. They need that, because they can immediately hold out their collective hands for a huge government bailout, probably without any need to ever repay. From their point of view, what’s not to like in this era of free helicopter money?

They will say that they were forced to shutdown by our government, so give us free money. If they unilaterally shut down without a government order, they wouldn’t get preferential or any treatment and not be able to get near the public money trough. They need to bury their heads in that cash.

As such, I’m think that the order will be made and their hands will be out looking for the free money within twenty four hours. I’m sure that the letters have already been written, pleading collective poverty and that they are essential to the long term health of our battered economy.

The whole thing is like playing musical chairs, where the purpose is NOT to be caught in the chair when the music stops. Whenever and whomever that is, will be blamed for everything. Naturally only the other side will be blamed. Republicans will only blame the Democrats and vice versa.

So the national debt will continue to spiral upwards… and one day the piper will finally call the tune. That will beĀ  the end of the US dollar being the global reserve currency, the source of our world dominance … since 1944, and that will be that.
