Why do the police need heavy machine guns and silencers?

I was somewhat disturbed with a NBC Nightly News report that the Department of Defense is providing local police forces with an array of heavy weaponry, including machine guns and pistol silencers.

The police are looking more and more like our soldiers in Afghanistan. I wonder when they will get rockets and light tanks? The MRAP vehicles are supplied with mounts so these heavy machine guns can be added quickly. I’m sure that they will be eventually.

So much for the “Protect and Serve” motto that we’ve grown up with. It’s looking like the police are gearing up for major riots and may use these military weapons on the public!

The tragedy is that America is being destroyed from within. It’s not the same nation as it was in the last century.
