Why Congress would like a major snow storm, right about now

Both the Republicans and Democrats are locked in a no-win struggle, as both sides will not give in to the other. The Republicans want to package the (hate to say it) needed nominal tax increases and spending cuts together, but the Democrats want a lot more in taxes from the people who make a good income; give it to the middle class who are waiting in line for more freebies… and increase spending. That’s why President Obama wants the unlimited deficit spending component of the Faustian deal..

President Obama doesn’t package his comments like that, He says that he wants wealthy people to pay their fair share (whatever that is) and cut spending in some areas, but increase spending in others. That net result will be an dramatic increase in spending, but he forgets to mention that part of his pitch. See the comment about his unlimited deficits request.

The Republicans are reluctant to increase taxes for most people as they could lose Republican votes, or give the president unlimited deficit spending authorization. As the next election is two years away and almost everybody will have forgotten about the fiscal cliff no matter what the outcome. The emotional energy will be long gone, and we’ll have a dozen crises between now and then so it doesn’t matter.

The Newtown, CT massacre of just two weeks ago and the massive amount of Hurricane Sandy damage inflicted in October were recent crises that just dropped off the media radar, so how long do you think that the fiscal cliff hysteria will continue into next year? A week?

The Republicans won’t give in to the president’s request for unlimited deficit spending authorization as it needs to rub the president’s nose in it every time we hit the spending limit, and it’s time for another scripted crisis.

A better outcome for both sides is to go over the cliff to harvest the 2012 Alternate Minimum Tax (AMT) collection from nearly 35,000,000 Americans, blame the other side for not being reasonable and quickly come to an agreement in January.

That agreement will be to cut taxes for most Americans so the Republicans can truthfully claim to have cut taxes (read, elect me during the next cycle) and let Obama have more deficit money to play with. The deficit will continue to explode.

Eventually our dollar will lose its value. We won’t have the hyperinflation of Germany in the 1920s, or the recent Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) collapse where five trillion Zimbabwean dollars will buy you a cup of coffee, but we’ll have a dramatic worsening.

That tax cut, if approved in 2012 would be a tax increase, but as the “temporary” tax cut ends in a few days and  automatically goes back to the original levels, any reductions in January becomes a tax cut. Smoke and mirrors manipulation that will cause most of the gullible public to nod approvingly that Washington has come though, without noticing the knife in the public’s back.

By the time the public realizes, if ever, that they have been duped yet again the current crop of politicians will be lobbyists, collecting huge pensions and incomes, and the president will have retired surrounded by sycophants and making millions giving speeches about how heroic he was.

So I think that what both sides are praying for is a gigantic DC snowstorm so house and senate members can’t get back to Washington… a “tragedy” so they can “truthfully” say that they would have voted whatever way would be most beneficial when they needed to comment.
