Can it be true that David Petraeus was stupid?

Or did he fall on his sword, for the good of the country or perhaps the Obama Administration?

Rumors have swirled that two Predator drones were onsite over Benghazi watching the entire attack on our consulate. If true, that implies that the we knew beforehand! So General Petraeus quits, allegedly because of his affair and not because he was due to testify under oath soon thereafter in Congress. The things people do to wiggle off the hook, and keep a huge pension.

After writing this, General Petraeus testified behind closed doors to a Congressional sub-committee. No report indicates if it was sworn testimony. I suspect not. It was also reported that one (probably two) drones were overhead,  watching the compound during the attack. That begs other questions – why was it there, was it armed (I suspect so), did the Libyan government know that its airspace was being overflown and if armed, what debate took place to decide if to fire a missile or two? It will all be kept secret to avoid public outrage, not as though that really matters.

It’s very, very hard to believe that as the CIA Director, he would use his Gmail account to send and receive suggestive correspondence in clear unencrypted text. This is the same man who, no doubt, ordered covert taps on email and is very clear on how our government easily accesses the public’s “private” accounts. For their own protection, of course.

The Associated Press reported that Petraeus and Broadwell used an old trick by sharing a Gmail account and just saving drafts, not sending messages, that either could read. This is so unbelievably stupid that it only begs the question… was Petraeus qualified to run the CIA? I don’t think so.

Perhaps Forrest Gump was right… “Stupid is, as stupid does.”

If truth will out, Congress needs to subpoena him anyway, under oath, and get to the bottom on this potential Watergate. On the other hand, as the election is over even if our president is caught with his hand in the cookie jar, nothing will or can be done.

The broader question is about what else is going on in the Obama Administration while the country is distracted by this farce? It’s the old magicians trick… watch my left hand, while the right is doing the trick.

That’s how the system works – distract the public and get elected. The only important day is the election day; not the day, week or month thereafter. Chumped again? We’ll see… if the media doesn’t bow to political pressure so as to maintain access.
