An almost audience with the governor

Here’s the story…

My campaign adviser mentioned that he lived within a few doors of Governor Nathan Deal’s assistant. Even better, they were friendly. I instantly thought that an audience with our Republican governor, and his subsequent endorsement would do wonders for my district House campaign.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards. Why? Because the assistant spoke to Governor Deal, who lives in my district. He said that whoever raised the most money will “buy the election.” As such, he had to be completely neutral, as if he backed the wrong horse in this race, it would create ill will.

So there you have it. That’s why candidates spend most of their time raising money. It’s not the money, it’s what the money buys. It buys votes, because if the voters are familiar with the candidate’s name they are far more likely to check that box.

Most voters have no idea what the candidates stand for; it’s all about familiarity. Sad by true.
