A slap in the face for John F. Kerry

Almost immediately after John F. Kerry (not JFK) made his emotional speech about why we should bomb Syria, President Obama threw him “under the bus.” Why? Because of two reasons. One, the president doesn’t really want to bomb Syria, but had boxed himself in over his foolish and naive red line bravado. He announced that he wants Congress to approve the pinprick, slap on the wrist bombing first. Why? So they can be blamed and not him.

If approved, this Tomahawk missile attack will the first of many. The first is always the hardest to get approved. That’s good for al-Qaeda and other Syrian terrorist elements that are starting to dominate the more moderate rebels.

al-Qaeda needs our help to link up with their fellow Iraqi terrorist factions, where just in August over 800 Iraqis died, so they can create a combined Caliphate of Iraq and Syria. Turkey will be next. al-Qaeda may be fortunate if the CIA supplies the latest generation Stinger missiles to them the rebels so they can shoot down Syrian airplanes.

Some of the Stinger’s may make their way to airports outside of London and Paris so they can shoot down American airplanes there. That will sour our relationship with our allies, ruin President Obama’s legacy as well as killing many people in the air and on the ground.

On the other hand, Raytheon will be looking for new orders to replace the missiles, so will have a more profitable fiscal quarter, good for investors. So much for the sequester and cutting back.

The only losers in this entire chess game will be the Syrian and American public. The Syrian’s, caught in the crossfire, while our government ignores the common sense and obvious solution to ending the Syrian Civil War while defeating the terrorist elements, and ours while Washington squabbles. It will also be good for Israel, so their jets can take the direct route and fly over Syria and northern Iraq when they attack Iran. The second is below.

The French have also been made to look like idiots as their president, Mr. Hollande, said that the French will back Mr. Obama a few days ago, and now announced that France won’t attack Syria alone. It’s  as though Francois Holland was full of bravado as long as he was hiding behind Obama. Now, he’s being ridiculed in France.

As I recommended in the last article here, it was a better ploy to call back Congress in an emergency session to vote on the attack. In that way, the blame for the inevitable disaster will be displaced onto Congress. They will be the fall guys and obviously, the no-voting Republicans will take the heat.

It’s even clearer that Mr. Obama wants to distance himself from his red line, as he has not asked Congress to reconvene in an emergency session, but at the regular date of September 9th. By then, the frantic emotions about extracting pinprick revenge on Syria’s al-Assad will have settled down, and a no-vote will be assured.

We’ll also be facing a government shutdown in October as Obama’s administration has run out of borrowed money (a total of $17 trillion and counting) and needs the debt ceiling increased yet again. That will be more pressing, and I’m confident that our administration will arrange another quick crisis to further reduce the chances of a yes vote.

The second possibility is that John F. Kerry has been backed into his own corner and will resign in protest, paving the way for Susan Rice to finally get the job. I wrote about that here. You may remember that the Senate blocked her chances of getting the job over her Benghazi comments, so Mr. Obama had to make her the National Security Advisor as that didn’t require a Senate vote. You can read that story by clicking on the image below.

I doubt this was planned, as it would have required some actual thinking in the White House ahead of the ongoing crises. I’ve yet to see much of that.

Unlike George W. Bush, our cowboy president who frequently shot from the hip, President Obama has a little more depth. Just a little.

When, and if, John F. Kerry resigns, the Senate will likely approve Susan Rice as Secretary of State since they will feel sorry for Mr. Obama (for a few days) being made to look like a fool over Syria, and that Benghazi is ancient history.

We’ll see.
